Alza.cz, the largest Czech online retailer, invests over 40 million euros in automation
The largest Czech e-commerce retailer, Alza.cz is investing more than 40 million euros in the development of its latest logistics center located in Chrášťany near Prague. It is the largest investment in the company’s history. In addition to expanding the existing area by another 15,000 m2, they implement AutoStore technology, empowered by Element Logic. The solution will boost the warehouse efficiency and shorten the delivery time.
“Our target was to optimize the storage space and improve the efficiency to meet the customers’ demands for short delivery times. During only one year we managed to draw up the contract documentation and the solution proposal together with the selected business partner. Finally, after signing the contract, we focused on fine-tuning the whole project “, says Vice Chairman of the Board at Alza.
Last year, Alza opened one of two units in the Czech Republic. This year the second unit will open – fully equipped with automated solutions implemented by Element Logic.
We offer warehouse automation for customers in a wide variety of sizes and industries. Each AutoStore solution is unique and tailor-made to fit our customers’ needs. We design systems to maximize the number of daily picks and efficiency, and at the same time we focus on goods protection, material control and waste disposal. Iu003cemu003et has been great working together with Alza. With the implementation of the AutoStore system in Alza’s warehouse, their order picking speed will increase by 75 %.u003c/emu003e
Jindřich Kadeřávek, Managing Director at Element Logic Czech Republic
Alza’s investment represents one of the biggest installations of an AutoStore system in Europe, covering approximately 8,000 m2 and will be operated by more than 400 robots. The system will be equipped by more than 40 inbound and 30 picking stations. Flow of goods will be ensured by a conveyor system with a length of 2,500 meters.
“During the integration, new processes such as automated storage and automated packing has been implemented to decrease the manual packing of goods”, Tomáš Havryluk explains and continues “by implementing automated packing we will reduce the use, and waste of packing material. Deliveries to pick up points will continue to be made in returnable packaging. These measures will decrease the volume of packaging material as well as handling of goods and will also improve the protection of goods during the transport.” “Element Logic’ systems help to reduce waste, and are contributing to overall sustainability of companies, “adds Jindřich Kadeřávek.
Alza plans to be fully operational by 2023, and the AutoStore system will be operational by autumn 2022. “Implementing new technology will not only improve the capacity and performance of our warehouse, but will also reduce the time spent on dispatching, from today’s 2 hours to less than 30 minutes. With this progress we will be able to offer express deliveries to our customers, and orders can be packed and dispatched within a few minutes, “concludes Havryluk.
